Abstract

Life expectancy in Indonesia continues to increase from year to year, so the number of elderly parents continues to increase. In the elderly, they are very susceptible to degenerative diseases. This can cause polypharmacy or the administration of many drugs in 1 recipe. This study aims to determine whether there is a drug interaction in geriatric patients suffering from hypertension who received a polypharmacy prescription in the RSUP internal ward. Dr. M. Djamil Padang. This research was conducted in April-May 2018. This research was carried out using descriptive survey method prospectively. All patients who met the inclusion criteria and within the timeframe were determined to be the study sample. Data was collected by looking at data through interviews with patients and medical records of patients. Based on the results of the study, it was concluded that geriatric patients with hypertension who received prescription polypharmacy were 11 people (31,42%) from 35 hypertensive patients. Furthermore, of the 11 patients who experienced drug interactions as many as 7 people (63,6%). There were 26 occurrences of drug interactions, 19 pharmacokinetic interactions (73.07%) and 7 pharmacodynamic events (26.93%).
