Abstract

Worms is a disease that is still widespread in Indonesia. This incident can be caused by a type of intestinal nematode worms in the Soil Transmitted Helminths group. Types of Soil Transmitted Helminths worms include Ascaris lumbricoides, Necator americanus and Ancylostoma duodenale, Trichuris tricihiura, and Strongyloides stercoralis. STH class worms can be transmitted through soil. The occurrence of worms begins with ingestion of worm eggs or the entry of infective larvae through the skin which then develops into adults in the human intestine. Adult worms lay eggs in the human intestine, then the eggs come out together with feces and will develop in the soil. Soil functions to ripen noninfective forms into infective. One of the jobs related to the land is brick making. This causes the nails to come into direct contact with the ground, allowing worm eggs to be tucked in and swallowed while eating. This condition can be made worse if you are not used to washing your hands with soap before eating. This study aims to determine the presence of STH worm eggs on the nails of brickmaking workers. This study was conducted from February to June at the STIKes Perintis Padang Laboratory. The population in this study were all brick workers who were taken as a sample of 23 people randomly (random sampling). Nail examination was carried out by sedimentation method using 10% KOH. The results of the examination showed 23 samples (100%) and no STH eggs were found on the sample nails (negative results).
