Abstract

Tuberculosis is a contagious infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which usually attacks the lungs, but can also attack all organs and tissues in the body. TB patients who use the multidrug principle for a long period of time often cause side effects, one of which is an increase in uric acid levels. This study aims to determine the levels of uric acid in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis who received OAT therapy. This type of research is descriptive with a cross sectional design. This research was conducted in March – August 2021 at RSU Major General H.A Talib Kerinci. The population in this study were all TB patients with a total sample of 30 samples of TB patients who underwent OAT therapy and examined uric acid levels. Uric acid examination was carried out by the colorimetric enzymatic method. The results showed that 18 patients (60.0%) had elevated uric acid levels and 12 patients (40.0%) were normal. In the intensive phase (1-3 months) 72.2% of those taking pyrazinamide and ethambutol increased, at the age of 46-75 years (72.2%). Based on gender, it was men (77.8%) who experienced an increase. Patients who take a combination of pyrazinamide and ethambutol in pulmonary tuberculosis patients are advised to check uric acid levels before and after treatment in order to maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle such as reducing high-purine eating, alcohol and not smoking. Keywords: Tuberculosis, Anti-tuberculosis drugs, Gout.
