Abstract

Neonatal sepsis is one of the causes of death in the world and Indonesia, until now in West Sumatra there are still cases of neonatal sepsis. One of the examinations for early diagnosis can also be used procalcitonin examination as a marker of sepsis examination, the purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between procalcitonin values and blood culture in neonatal sepsis patients. analytic observational research method with a cross-sectional study design, samples were taken by purposive sampling as many as 50 samples. Examination of procasitonin using the fluorescence immunoassay method using a via 800, culture examination using the calorimetric method using the bactec alert tool. The results of the study of procalcitonin values found abnormal results in 34 patients (68%) and culture examination found positive results in 35 patients (70%). In the statistical test the results of the Spearman's rho test found p value = 0.035 0.05, the conclusion: the results of procalcitonin and blood culture were both positive.
