Abstract

The background and purpose of helminthiasis is enough to make the sufferer suffer losses, generally 2 concentrations of formalin are used, namely 5% for preserving protozoan cysts and 10% for worm eggs and larvae. The most commonly used formalin is 10% formalin in aquadest. The purpose of this study was to determine the microscopic differences between direct worm eggs and different concentrations of formalin. The type of research used is analytical research, this study will look at microscopic differences in worm eggs directly with different concentrations of formalin. The population in this study were all positive stool samples for intestinal nematodes, with samples in this study being positive stool samples for the intestinal nematode parasite Soil Transmitted Helminth. The results of the study we can see that formalin concentrations of 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% and 25% on direct examination have good quality preparations, because they do not damage microscopic worm eggs, after being left for 1x24 hours the concentration of 25% has poor quality in STH preparations with microscopic damage to worm eggs, a concentration of 25% on examination after being left for 1x24 hours gave poor microscopic quality of worm eggs (mean rank = 9.50) with a higher value, statistical test with p value = 0.157, p>0.05, meaning no the existence of microscopic differences between direct worm eggs. It can be concluded that there is no microscopic difference between direct examination of worm eggs with formalin preservatives at different concentrations which were left for 1x24 hours at room temperature.
