Abstract

Tuberculosis is a disease caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis. This bacterium more often infect the lungs. Patients with pulmonary tuberculosis with postitive acid-fast bacilli will experience inflammation which causes the number of leukocytes and erythrocytes to increase. The number of leuckocytes is related to their function as a defense, so that when an infection occurs in patiens with pulmonary tuberculosis with positive acid-fast bacilli the number of leukocytes will experience a faster deposition due to the increase in the number of blood cells, if the number of leukocytes is high, the blood will settle so that the sedimentation rate will be high. The purpose of the study was to determine the relationship between the degree of positive acid-fast bacilli and the erythrocyte sedimentation with pulmonary tuberculosis. This type of research is analytic. The sample of this study were patients with positive acid-fast bacillus-grade pulmonary tuberculosis at the Hospital Mayjen H.A Thalib Kerinci, as many as 30 patients. The results of the examination showed that average erytrocyte sedimentation rate in patients with positive acid-fast bacilli grade 1 was 40,0 mm/hour, while the average erythrocyte sedimentation rate in positive acid-fast bacilli 2 was 36,7 mm/hour, and average erythrocyte sedimentation rate in positive acid-fast bacilli 3 was 23,3 mm/hour. Spearman statistical test obtained p value of 0,00 < 0,05, and r of 0,838, so it can be concluded that there is a relationship between the degree of positive acid-fast bacilli and the erythrocyte sedimentation rate in patiens with pulmonary tuberculosis.
