Abstract

Intestinal nematode worm infections can be transmitted through soil or soil-transmitted helminths are a major problem in developing countries. This group of STH worms consists of Ascaris lumbricoides (roundworms), Trichuris trichiura (whipworms), Ancylostoma duodenale, and Necator americanus (hookworms). The risk of helminth infection is highest in children. A study was carried out with the aim of knowing how the results of the examination of Soil Transmitted Helminth worm eggs using the saturated sugar flotation method on students at SDN 50 Kampung Jambak Lubuk Buaya were conducted. This research is descriptive analytic, which has been carried out from Maret to June 2022 at the Biomedical Laboratory of the University Perintis Indonesia. The number of samples in this study were 23 children from grade 1 to grade 5 who were taken randomly (random sampling). Stool examination was carried out microscopically using the saturated sugar solution flotation method. The results showed that 5 students (21.74%) were positively infected with Soil transmitted helminth worm eggs. Based on gender, 4 students were infected (17.39%) and 1 student (4.35%) was infected. Based on the age of students aged 7 years there is 1 student (4.35%) who is positive, at the age of 8 years 1 student (4.35%) is positive, at the age of 9 years there is 1 student (4.35%) positive, at the age of 9 years there is 1 student (4.35%) positive, at the age of 10 years old there is 1 student (4.35%) positive, at the age of 11 years there is 1 student (4.35%) positive. The types of worm eggs found were Ascaris lumbricoides as many as 5 students (21.74%). Keywords : Soil Transmitted Helminth, Ascaris, infections
