Abstract
Corn hair (Zea mays L.) is one part of the corn plant that has chemical compounds that are beneficial to health, one of which is flavonoid compounds. Flavonoid compounds found in corn hair have an anti-inflammatory effect by regulating arachidonic acid by inhibiting cyclooxygenase and lipooxygenase activity. This study aims to determine the effect of giving the polar fraction of corn hair (Zea mays L.) at a dose of 200 mg/kgBB on reducing TNF-α production. The group was divided into 3 groups, group 1 dose 200 mg/kgBB, group 2 comparison and group 3 positive control. The results showed that on the volume of edema of the rat's feet on day 1 for the length of treatment and the test group was significantly different (p0,05), but the length of treatment against the test group was not significantly different, on day 2 for the length of treatment was significantly different but in the test group and the length of treatment against the test group was not significant (p0,05), on day 3 for the length of treatment, the test group and the length of treatment against the test group there was no significant (p ˃ 0,05). TNF-α levels in the positive group, comparison group, and dose group were 146.74 ng/L; 117.524 ng/L; and 160.321 ng/L. Then in one-way ANOVA test TNF-α levels were not significant 0.252 ˃ 0.05. The conclusion of this study is that the polar fraction of corn hair (Zea mays L.) at a dose of 200 mg/kgBB has an effect on reducing the volume of rat paw edema but there is no effect on reducing TNF-α production levels.
