Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of varying storage time on the quality of sputum cytology staining with and without ethanol fixation. This experimental research involved four patients with six different treatment protocols (storage times of 24, 48, and 72 hours). The results showed a significant effect of storage time on staining quality, both for sputum without fixation (p = 0.005) and with 50% ethanol fixation (p = 0.046). As a result, storage with ethanol fixation provided better staining quality, indicating improved microscopic quality in cytological observations. These findings are highly relevant to sample management in medical laboratories and contribute to the knowledge of cytological examination procedures. This study will enrich the understanding of sputum cytology staining quality with varying storage time effects.
