Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus is a heterogeneous group of disorders characterized by increased blood glucose levels, known as hyperglycemia, which can cause cell death in the kidneys. The process of insulin synthesis and secretion takes place in the lungs of mice. According to the 2023 Indonesian Health Survey (SKI) data, the prevalence of DM sufferers for the age of 15 years in Indonesia is 10.3%, namely 21,848,470 people. While the prevalence of DM sufferers for West Sumatra Province is 8.8%, namely 372,632 people. Based on the results of the study, it was found that garcinia contains secondary compounds such as triterpenes, flavonoids, xanthones and phloroglucino in this study using laboratory experimental methods with a pre and post test group design, namely a design used in measuring the effect of experimental group treatment by comparing the group with the control. The results of this study indicate that the acetone extract of kandis acid fruit, especially at a dose of 80%, is able to provide a protective effect against lung histological damage in diabetic mice. Its effectiveness even approached the comparison group (glibenclamide), so it can be concluded that the phytochemical content in kandis acid fruit has the potential to be developed as an additional therapeutic agent in treating diabetes complications, especially lung tissue damage. 1. Blood glucose levels in white male rats before alloxan induction were 116.12 mg/dl and after alloxan induction, an average blood glucose of 191.72 mg/dl was obtained. 2. Data glucose levels in male rats against the influence of kandis acid extract at concentrations of 40 mg/kgBW and 80 mg/kgBW were obtained at an average of 111.6 mg/dl. 3. The optimal concentration of kandis acid extract that has an effect as an anti-diabetes mellitus is in the treatment group with a dose of 80 mg/kgBW. The 80% dose can be said to be more effective than the 40% dose in improving the lung histology of diabetic rats. Keywords: Diabetes, Garcinia cowa Roxb, kandis acid, blood glucose, kidney histopathology.
