Abstract
ABSTRACT Chromium is a heavy metal that is toxic, particularly in its hexavalent form (Cr⁶⁺), and can induce oxidative stress in liver tissue. This study aimed to determine the effect of chromium exposure on the levels of SGOT and SGPT enzymes in rats (Rattus norvegicus). The research employed a post-test only control group design using seven rats divided into control and treatment groups. Chromium levels were measured using atomic absorption spectrophotometry, while SGOT and SGPT levels were determined spectrophotometrically. The Kruskal–Wallis test results showed no significant differences in chromium (p = 0.069), SGOT (p = 0.448), and SGPT (p = 0.283) levels. It can be concluded that chromium exposure did not significantly affect SGOT and SGPT levels, although there was a tendency for increased enzyme levels in the treatment group.
