Abstract

Microplastics are one of the hazardous substances or wastes. Based on several studies on microplastics that have been conducted so far. Microplastics measuring <20μm, if ingested, enter the bloodstream through the tips of intestinal villi with the help of M cell endocytosis which is in Payer's Patches or by the paracellular persorption mechanism, microplastics will then be distributed throughout the body so that it will allow them to accumulate in various organs and trigger cellular responses such as oxidative stress, cytotoxicity, and inflammation. Indonesia produces 3.2 million tons of unprocessed plastic annually. Microplastics have spread throughout the environment, from oceans to land, and are having a significant impact on living organisms and ecosystems worldwide. The aim of this study was to analyze the number of leukocytes in the blood of white rats (Rattus novergicus) exposed to microplastics.The method used is Spectroscopy - FTIR (Fourir Transform Infra Red) and Hematology analyzer. The results of the study showed that from 6 blood samples of mice with different doses from weeks 1 and 2, the results were found to increase from the normal limit of the number of leukocytes. The conclusion of this study is that microplastics affect the number of leukocytes, but are only toxic and stored for a long time in the body. Keywords: Microplastics, Rat Blood, Leukocytes
