Abstract

Hyperglycemia and dyslipidemia are common conditions in diabetes mellitus. This study aimed to investigate the effects of clove flower extract (Syzygium aromaticum) on blood glucose and LDL levels in a hyperglycemic rat model. Using a pretest-posttest control group design, ten male white rats were divided into control and treatment groups, with the treatment group receiving clove flower extract at dose 1. Parameters measured included glucose and LDL levels before and after treatment. Results showed a significant decrease in blood glucose (p = 0.000) and LDL levels (p = 0.014) in the treatment group. This effect is thought to be due to the presence of eugenol, flavonoids, and other active compounds with antidiabetic and hypolipidemic properties. The study concludes that clove flower extract has potential as an alternative therapy for reducing glucose and LDL levels, supporting its use as a phytopharmaceutical agent in the management of diabetes mellitus.
