Abstract
Diabetic ulcers are chronic complications often accompanied by infection from Pseudomonas aeruginosa, an opportunistic bacterium capable of forming biofilms and increasing resistance to treatment. This study aimed to determine the effect of (Caesalpinia sappan L.) extract on the biofilm growth activity of Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolated from diabetic ulcers. The tube method was applied using extract concentrations (7%, 8%, 9%, 10%, and 11%), with quantitative analysis performed using Mean Gray Value via ImageJ software. Results showed that higher extract concentrations correlated with increased MGV values, indicating a significant reduction in biofilm biomass (p<0.05). The 11% concentration was the most effective in inhibiting biofilm formation. Therefore, (Caesalpinia sappan L.) extract has potential as a natural antibiofilm agent to support chronic wound therapies such as diabetic ulcers.
