Abstract
Lead (Pb) is a toxic heavy metal that can cause organ damage, particularly to the kidneys. This study aimed to determine the blood Pb levels and the histopathological features of the kidneys in white rats (Rattus norvegicus) after exposure to Pb. The research used a post-test only group design with seven rats divided into a control group (three rats) and a treatment group (four rats) injected intraperitoneally with Pb(NO₃)₂ at a dose of 1,000 mg/L. Blood Pb levels were analyzed using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS), while kidney tissues were examined using Hematoxylin-Eosin (HE) staining. The results showed an increase in blood Pb levels in the treatment group (3 hours = 1.15 mg/L; 6 hours = 1.26 mg/L) compared to the control group (0.01 mg/L). Histopathological observations revealed progressive changes from mild degeneration to severe necrosis. It can be concluded that Pb exposure leads to increased blood Pb levels and kidney tissue damage in white rats. Keywords: Lead (Pb), kidney, histopathology, white rats.
