Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycemia due to impaired insulin secretion or action. This condition can trigger oxidative stress and the release of pro inflammatory cytokines that can activate leukocytes and cause changes in the number and type of leukocytes. The purpose of this study was to determine the difference in the number of leukocytes and the type of leukocytes before and after the administration of clove flower extract and metformin in diabetic-induced rats. This study is a true experiment research using a Randomized Post-test Control Group Design. The sample was whole blood in mice. The tool used is a Hematology Analyzer with the impedance method. Data were analyzed using the Shapiro wilk test, and the independent T test or Mann Whitney. The results showed a decrease in the number of leukocytes, lymphocytes, and monocytes after administration of clove flower extract (p < 0.05), while other types of leukocytes showed no significant difference (p > 0.05). This indicates the potential of clove extract as an inflammatory agent in hyperglycemic rats. Keywords: Clove Flower Extract, Leukocyte Count, Leukocyte Types
