Abstract
Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycemia due to impaired insulin secretion or action, potentially leading to multi-organ damage, including the kidneys and liver. This study aimed to analyze the effect of papaya seed infusion on the histopathology of kidney and liver tissues in white rats (Rattus norvegicus) induced with DM using alloxan. This laboratory experimental research was conducted from February to July 2025. The study population consisted of 24 rats divided into four groups: negative control (non-DM), positive control (DM without treatment), treatment group one (3 ml/200 mg/kgBW), and treatment group two (6 ml/200 mg/kgBW). The papaya seed infusion was administered orally for 14 days, after which the kidney and liver organs were analyzed using histopathological methods with Hematoxylin-Eosin staining. The results showed differences in the degree of kidney and liver tissue damage between the treatment groups and the positive control group, with the higher dose producing better histological improvement compared to the lower dose. Statistical analysis using One Way ANOVA revealed a significant effect of papaya seed infusion on reducing tissue damage (p < 0.05) and lowering blood glucose levels in diabetic rats. The conclusion of this study is that papaya seed infusion has potential as a phytotherapeutic agent to improve kidney and liver tissue damage in DM conditions, particularly at higher doses. Keywords: Keywords: Diabetes, histopathology, kidney, liver, Rattus norvegicus.
