Abstract

Type II Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by hyperglycemia due to insulin resistance or impaired insulin secretion, often accompanied by increased triglyceride levels. This study aimed to determine fasting blood glucose levels, triglyceride levels, and their relationship in patients with Type II Diabetes Mellitus at RSUD Dr. Adnaan WD Payakumbuh. This quantitative research used an observational analytic design with a cross-sectional approach involving 40 purposively selected patients. Fasting blood glucose and triglyceride levels were measured using enzymatic GOD–PAP and GPO–PAP methods and analyzed with the Pearson correlation test. The results showed mean fasting blood glucose and triglyceride levels of 182.65 mg/dL and 249.00 mg/dL, respectively, with a significant positive correlation between the two variables (p = 0.000; r = 0.586). These findings indicate that higher fasting blood glucose levels are associated with higher triglyceride levels, supporting the theory that insulin resistance in Type II Diabetes Mellitus affects both glucose and lipid metabolism.
