Abstract

Chronic kidney failure (CKD) is a kidney disease when damaged for more than 3 months which will cause kidney function to decrease and have an impact on increased urea levels. Hemoglobin will drop due to a deficiency of the hormone erytropoeitin. Increased urea levels caused by damage to the kidneys, hemodialysis processes, bleeding, iron and vitamin deficiencies. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between hemoglobin and urea levels in chronic kidney failure. This study uses a quantitative observational analysis method. The population used in this study is all patients with stage 3, 4 and 5 chronic kidney failure at Padang Panjang Hospital for the period of February– April 2025 who meet the inclusion criteria. The sample in this study was 30 patients randomly using the Purposive sampling technique. Hemoglobin levels in EDTA blood were performed by fluorescence flow cytometry method with a hematology analyzer and urea levels in serum samples were performed by enzymatic photometry method with clinical chemistry analyzer. Data analysis was conducted using the statistical test SPSS 15.0 Pearson correlation method. The results of the examination showed that patients aged 56-65 years were 9 people (30%), while in the male sex it was as many as (63.33%). From the results of the test, a p-value of 0.002 (p <0.05) and a value of r=-0.535 were obtained which showed that there was a significant correlation between hemoglobin levels and urea in patients with chronic kidney failure. The conclusion of the study was obtained an inverse relationship which means that the higher the urea level and the lower the hemoglobin level. Keywords: Chronic Kidney Failure, Hemoglobin, Urea
