Abstract
Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is an important public health problem, becoming one of the four priority non-communicable diseases that are the target of follow-up by world leaders. The number of cases and the prevalence of DM has continued to increase over the last few decades. One of the risks that can be caused by DM is pulmonary tuberculosis (TB). This study aims to determine the relationship of DM patients to the incidence of pulmonary TB. Methods: This type of research is retrospective with a cross-sectional design. The samples used in this study were all 39 people with DM who had blood glucose >200 mg/dl. Subsequently, the Pulmonary TB Rapid Molecular Test (TCM) was examined for all samples. Data analysis was processed and tested using the Fisher exact test. Results: Most of the research subjects were female at 84.6 and negative TCM examination results were 66.7%, TCM positive was 33.3%. Fisher exact test results with p value = 0.023 < 0.05. Conclusions and suggestions: There is a relationship between diabetes mellitus risk factors and the incidence of pulmonary tuberculosis. It is hoped that laboratory experts can improve understanding of pulmonary tuberculosis TCM examinations for people with diabetes mellitus.
