Abstract
Total cholesterol examination aims to determine the total cholesterol level in a specimen. Examination of total cholesterol can be done by using samples in the form of serum or plasma. The examination is carried out immediately within 1 hour after sampling. However, sometimes the examination cannot be carried out or has to be postponed if there is a technical malfunction in the laboratory, for example damage to the equipment, so the sample must be stored before the analysis is carried out. The purpose of this study was to determine differences in cholesterol levels using fresh serum stored for 6 days at room temperature at 4°C. This type of research is descriptive analytic with a cross-sectional design. It will be held in March – August 2021 at the Ahmacd Motchar Hospital, Bukittinggi. The population of this study were all patients who checked total cholesterol at the central laboratory installation of Ahcmad Mocthar Hospital, Bukittinggi During June 2021 with a large sample of 15 people. The sampling technique was simple random (simple random) where each element or member of the population had the same opportunity to was selected as the sample. Total cholesterol levels were checked using a Biosystem. The results of the study were analyzed using a statistical test, namely the dependent t test. Statistical results showed that p = 0.000 means p > (0.05), which means there is a difference in total cholesterol levels using fresh serum stored for 6 days at room temperature with 4°C.
