Abstract

Hyperglycemia or increased levels of in the blood is a common effect in uncontrolled diabetes and if left unchecked will cause serious damage to body system, especially nerves and blood vessels. In Southeast Asia, Indonesia ranked 7th with a prevalence rate of 10.7%, and West Sumatera ranks 14th in Indonesia. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of giving decoction of kawa leaves against blood sugar levels in wistar rats (rattus novergiccus) induced diabetes mellitus. Study is a true experimental study using a completely randomized design pre-post-test with Control Group Design. The number of samples was 24 male white rats of the Wistar strain (Rattus norvegicus ). Dependent variable is blood sugar level and independent variable is kawa leaf stew. Blood sugar was measured using a Photometer 5010. The data were analyzed through a paired t-test followed by the ANOVA test and to see the differences between groups using the Posh hoc LSD and Duncan tests. Paired t-test results showed a significant difference in blood sugar levels in white rats before and after the intervention of kawa leave in the treatment group K+ (.046), P1 (.001), P2 (.000). And in K- (.517) where there was no significant difference, it was because the Kgroup was not given intervention. There was a decrease in blood sugar levels after being given a decoction of kawa leaves in experimental animals in each intervention group. Further research is needed, to determine the content and other benefits of kawa leaves
