Abstract
Hypertension is a chronic disease that is the number one health problem causing death in the world. Hypertension is a condition where there is an increase in blood pressure in the arteries that exceeds 140/90 mmHg. Hypertension is also a risk factor for diabetes mellitus that cannot be modified. Hypertension can cause insulin resistance which is the main cause of increased blood glucose levels. The purpose of this study was to describe the total cholesterol levels and blood glucose levels in hypertensive patients. This type of research uses descriptive analytic research with the number of respondents as many as 30 hypertensive patients, with a cross sectional research design. This research was conducted in February - July 2022 in the laboratory of RSUD M. Natsir Solok. Examination of cholesterol levels in hypertensive patients was carried out by the CHOD - PAP method, while the examination of blood glucose levels was carried out by the GOD - PAP method. The results of the study found as many as 18 people (60%) with normal total cholesterol levels, and as many as 12 people (40%) with high total cholesterol levels. Then found as many as 13 people (43.33%) with normal blood glucose levels, and as many as 17 people (56.66%) with high blood glucose levels. From these data it can be concluded that in most hypertensive patients there is an increase in total cholesterol levels and blood glucose levels.
