Abstract

65.RABIAWATI: 2020243114 Abstract Background: Cases of hypertension sufferers in the country are still very high. The prevalence of hypertension reached 34.1% in 2018. The elderly still dominate cases of hypertension with a prevalence above 50%. At the Pematang Kandis Health Center Bangko, there are 364 cases of elderly hypertension being treated in 2021. The control of hypertension risk factors is not optimally one of the triggers. As still found the elderly who consume fatty foods, lack of activity, smoking, consuming excess salt, etc. Objective: This study aims to determine the relationship between the degree of hypertension and the compliance of the elderly in controlling risk factors. Methods: The research design used was an analytical observational study with a cross-sectional design. Samples were taken as many as 38 people using consecutive sampling technique. Furthermore, measuring blood pressure and also filling out a questionnaire to determine the degree of hypertension and compliance of the elderly. The results of the univariate analysis showed that 86.4% of the elderly with hypertension grade I were obedient in controlling risk factors, 50% of the elderly with grade II were obedient, and 25% of the elderly were grade III were obedient in controlling risk factors. From the results of the Chi-Square test, it was found that p<α (0.013 < 0.05) with a 95% confidence level. This shows that there is a significant relationship between the degree of hypertension and the compliance of the elderly in controlling risk factors. Conclusions and suggestions: The results of the study concluded that there was a relationship between the degree of hypertension and the compliance of the elderly in controlling risk factors. Elderly should be able to improve the control of hypertension risk factors and nurses can provide optimal education to the elderly with hypertension on the importance of controlling risk factors.
