Abstract
Hepatitis B is an inflammatory disease of the liver or an infection that can damage liver cells. Indonesia is a country with moderate to high endemicity for Hepatitis B virus (VHB) virus infection found in cells and serum, which can cause the levels of SGOT and SGPT enzymes in the blood to increase in an acute state, resulting in liver cell damage. The purpose of this study is to see an overview of the results of SGOT and SGPT examinations in hepatitis B patients at Arifin Achmad Hospital, Riau Province. Types of descriptive research methods in March-July 2024 at Arifin Achmad Hospital, Riau Province. The sample was 30 respondents. The results of the study of 30 respondents with Hepatitis B with HBsAg positive were the most aged 45-63 years with the gender being mostly male at 63.33%. SGOT levels were mostly normal for 18 people (60%), high for 12 people (40%), and normal SGPT for 14 people (46.67%), high for 11 people (36.67), and low for 5 people (16.66%). Conclusion Some high levels of SGOT and SGPT enzymes can cause liver cell damage while normal indicates that Hepatitis B infection does not cause severe liver function damage, but a normal liver function examination also does not mean that the liver is not disturbed. Keywords : Hepatitis B, HBsAg, SGOT, SGPT
