Abstract
This study aims to describe the levels of Serum Glutamic Oxaloacetic Transaminase (SGOT) in white rats (Rattus norvegicus) exposed to iron (Fe) through drinking water consumption. Iron is a heavy metal that can be toxic when present in excessive amounts in the body, leading to various health disorders, including liver damage. The liver functions in metabolism and detoxification of toxic substances in the body, where damage to the liver can be detected by increased levels of SGOT enzyme in the serum. This research uses an experimental method with male white rats as test animals, which were given drinking water contaminated with iron. The results of the study showed an increase in SGOT levels in rats exposed to iron compared to the control group, indicating liver damage in these rats. These findings highlight the dangers of excessive iron exposure, particularly through the consumption of contaminated drinking water, and the importance of monitoring SGOT levels as an early indicator of liver damage due to metal toxicity. This research provides significant contributions to the understanding of the health impacts of heavy metal exposure, especially iron, and serves as a basis for effortsto prevent and control health risks associated with it. Keywords : Iron Metal, Serum Glutamic Oxaloacetic Transaminase
