Abstract

Worm diseases caused by intestinal nematode worms of the Soil Transmitted Helminths group, such as Ascaris lumbricoides, Necator americanus, Ancylostoma duodenale, Trichuris trichiura, and Strongyloides stercoralis, are still widespread in Indonesia because these worms can be transmitted through the soil. At school age 5 – 12 years, children tend to be attacked by worm infections more often because their activities are mostly related to soil. This causes the hands to become contaminated with soil, which can allow worm eggs to slip and be swallowed when eating. This condition can be made worse if you are not used to washing your hands with soap before eating. This research aims to determine the density of Soil Transmitted Helminths eggs in the feces of children aged 5 - 12 years which was carried out in March - June 2024 at the UPT Laboratory of Indonesian Perintis University. The population in this study were all children aged 5-12 years who were taken as a sample of 30 people at random (random sampling). Stool examination was carried out using the Stoll method using 0.1N NaOH solution with a dose of 56 ml. The results of the examination of 30 samples showed that 5 people were positive for Soil Transmitted Helminths infection with a percentage of (17%) and 25 people were negative with a percentage of (83%). Based on the type of Soil Transmitted Helminths worm eggs, Ascaris lumbricoides worm eggs were found in 4 people (80%), Trichuris trichiura in 1 person (20%). Based on the density of worm eggs, it was found that the number of worm eggs/gram of feces was 100 eggs/g of feces to 400 eggs/g of feces, where the highest density of worm eggs was found in patients with the sample code RV with a number of worm eggs of 400 eggs/gram of feces.
