Abstract

Comparison of Molecular Rapid Test with Ziehl-Neelsen Microscopic Examination in the Diagnosis of Pulmonary Tuberkulosis Tuberkulosis (TB) remains a public health problem in Indonesia and is one of the highest causes of death due to infectious diseases. Early and accurate diagnosis is crucial to reduce the transmission rate and increase the patient recovery rate. This study aims to compare the results of Molecular Rapid Test (TCM) with Ziehl-Neelsen Microscopic Method in Tuberkulosis Patients at Bungus Teluk Kabung Community Health Center, Padang City. Sputum samples were collected and examined using both methods. The results showed that TCM had more MTD detected compared to the Ziehl-Neelsen Method. In addition, TCM was able to detect resistance to rifampicin quickly in less than two hours, which cannot be done by microscopic examination. Although the Ziehl-Neelsen method is simpler and cheaper, its limitations in terms of sensitivity, especially in patients with low bacillus counts, make it less ideal as a single method for TB diagnosis. The conclusion of this study is that the Molecular Rapid Test provides more accurate and faster results, and is more effective in detecting TB cases, especially those resistant to drugs, so it is recommended as the main diagnostic tool in TB control efforts.
