Abstract
Tuberculosis (TB) is a contagious infectious disease that remains a global health concern. Diabetes mellitus (DM) is known as a significant risk factor that increases an individual’s vulnerability to TB infection and complicates both diagnosis and treatment. The Molecular Rapid Test (TCM) using the GeneXpert method is a diagnostic innovation capable of detecting TB rapidly and accurately, including resistance to rifampicin. This study aimed to describe the results of the GeneXpert-based TCM examination on sputum samples from tuberculosis patients with diabetes mellitus at RSUD Prof. H. Muhammad Yamin, SH. This research is a descriptive observational study involving 25 TB patients with comorbid diabetes mellitus. The data were analyzed based on sex distribution, age group, and TCM results. Of the 25 TB-DM patients, most were male (16 people or 64%) and female (9 people or 36%). Based on age, the highest number of patients was in the elderly group (≥60 years) with 13 patients (52%). TCM results showed MTB Detected High in 12 patients (48%), Medium and Low in 5 patients each (20%), and Very Low in 3 patients (12%). The average fasting blood glucose level in TB-DM patients was high, indicating a hyperglycemic condition. Keywords: Tuberculosis, Diabetes Mellitus, GeneXpert, Molecular Rapid Test
