Abstract
Probiotics are live microorganisms that provide a health-enhancing effect on their hosts, one of which is through the ability to produce antibacterial compounds. Lactic acid bacteria (BAL) is one of the probiotic candidates that can be obtained from breast milk. This study aims to find out the antibacterial activity of BAL isolate from breast milk against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. This research was conducted in the Biomedical Laboratory of Universitas Perintis Indonesia from June 2024 to June 2025. The research method conducted was experimental using non probability sampling techniques. The data was analyzed using a descriptive test. The results of the study showed the antibacterial activity of BAL isolate from breast milk and from 14 isolates, the average measurement results of the antibacterial activity test against Escherichia coli bacteria was 9.1 mm and Staphylococcus aureus was 6.5 mm. The conclusion of this study is that BAL isolate from breast milk has more effective antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli bacteria than Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. The suggestion for further research is to conduct research by testing on other variables to test the feasibility of lactic acid bacteria as probiotic candidates, one of which is hydrophobicity and forelation tests against cadmium. Keywords: Probiotics, Lactic acid bacteria, breast milk, antibacterial.
