Abstract
Candida albicans is an opportunistic fungus that is one of the causes of vulvovaginal candidiasis, a form of pathological vaginal discharge in women. Resistance to synthetic antifungals has prompted the need for alternatives from natural ingredients. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of a combination of tea seed extract (Camellia sinensis L.) and bay leaf extract (Syzygium polyanthum (Wight.) Walp) on the growth of Candida albicans, which causes vaginal discharge. The research method used was experimental with four variations of thick extract combinations (1:1, 1:2, 2:1, and 2:2) using the disc diffusion method. The results showed that all extract combinations provided inhibitory power against the growth of Candida albicans, with the 2:1 combination showing the highest inhibitory power (average 20.2 mm) and included in the "very strong" category. ANOVA test showed significant differences between treatments (p<0.05), and further Duncan's test confirmed that each combination had significantly different effectiveness. This study concluded that the combination of tea seed and bay leaf extract effectively inhibited the growth of Candida albicans, the cause of vaginal discharge, with a 2:1 combination being the most effective. Keywords: Candida albicans, tea seeds, bay leaves, antifungal
