Abstract

Chromium is a chemical element (Cr) that is a steel-gray, hard, and brittle transition metal. This element is known for its high resistance to corrosion and hardness, making it an important material in the manufacture of stainless steel and chrome plating. This study used a laboratory experimental design with a post-test only group, involving six white rats: two as a negative control group and four exposed to chromium. Chromium levels were measured using Spectrophotometry. Atomic Absorption Rate (AAS) and hemoglobin levels were measured using a Hematology Analyzer. Data were analyzed using a correlation test using SPSS 15.0 software. Rats were given a standard solution of K2 Cr2 O7 1000 mg/L by injection. The results showed that the average chromium levels in the treatment group increased after 6 hours of exposure (0.05 µg/L), although still within the international normal limit (<1.4 µg/L). Hemoglobin levels in the control group showed a decrease below the normal limit (12.576 g/dL). After 3 hours of chromium injection, the average hemoglobin level decreased to 12.267 g/dL, and after 6 hours it decreased further to 12.167 g/dL. This decrease in hemoglobin is caused by physiological responses to toxic exposure, including oxidative stress and red blood cell damage that interfere with hemoglobin synthesis. However, the results of statistical tests showed no significant relationship between chromium and hemoglobin levels in the control group and the treatment group after 3 and 6 hours. Keywords: : Chromium, Hemoglobin, White Rats, Heavy Metals, Anemia.
