Abstract
Hyperglycemia in individuals with diabetes mellitus is often accompanied by dyslipidemia, including elevated triglyceride levels, which increase the risk of cardiovascular complications. This study aimed to determine the effect of clove flower extract (Syzygium aromaticum) on triglyceride levels in male white rats (Rattus norvegicus) induced with alloxan to model hyperglycemia. A true experimental design with a randomized post-test control group design was used, involving 20 rats divided into four groups: negative control, positive control (metformin), and two treatment groups receiving different doses of clove flower extract. The extract was prepared using the maceration method with 96% ethanol as the solvent. Triglyceride levels were measured using the enzymatic colorimetric method (GPO-PAP). The results showed a significant decrease in triglyceride levels in the treatment groups after administration of clove extract compared to before treatment. This effect is likely due to the bioactive compounds in clove such as eugenol, flavonoids, and tannins, which exhibit antihyperglycemic and antioxidant activities. In conclusion, clove flower extract has the potential to serve as an alternative therapy for reducing triglyceride levels in hyperglycemic conditions. Keywords: Triglycerides, Hyperglycemia, Clove Flower.
