Abstract

Hyperglycemia is a hallmark of diabetes mellitus, which is caused by a disruption of insulin work that disrupts the metabolism of fats, proteins, and carbohydrates. In the change in the balance of hemostasis, patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus are in a state of hypercoagulation which results in platelet abnormalities in the blood. Cloves are non-juicy, aromatic flowering stems of trees in the Myrtaceae family. Scientifically, cloves are reported to have anti-diabetic potential. The purpose of this study was to find out whether the administration of clove flower extract (Syzygium aromaticum) can affect the number of platelets in hyperglycemic rats, by comparing the conditions before and after the administration of clove flower extract (Syzygium aromaticum). This study is a true experiment using the Randomized Pre-Post test Control Group Design. The sample was rat blood with EDTA anticoagulant. The tool used by the hematology analyzer is the flowcytometry method. Data were analyzed using the wilk Shapiro test and the independent T test. The results showed that there was no significant difference in platelet count before and after administration of clove flower extract (Syzygium aromaticum) in hyperglycemia mice with a p value of 0.05 < 0.69.
