Abstract

Hepatitis is a general inflammation of the liver, which can be categorized as hepatitis A, B, C, D, and E. Hepatitis B is a liver disease caused by the Hepatitis B virus, a member of the hepatitis DNA virus group. This infection can cause liver inflammation, both acute and chronic, potentially leading to cirrhosis or liver cancer. Bilirubin is the result of the breakdown of red blood cells, releasing hemoglobin (Hb). Hemoglobin is made up of two components: heme and globin. Globin is a protein that can be reused or stored. There are two types of bilirubin: Direct (Conjugated) Bilirubin and Indirect (Unconjugated). Bilirubin is also found in urine, a condition known as Bilirubinuria. After red blood cells break down, hemoglobin is released and distributed to the liver, where it is excreted in the bile during urine formation. There, the yellow pigment in urine comes from hemoglobin broken down in the liver. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between urine bilirubin levels and blood bilirubin in chronic hepatitis B patients at the Pramita Padang Clinical Laboratory. This type of research was descriptive analytical with a Cross Sectional approach design conducted in February - July 2025 at the Pramita Padang Clinical Laboratory. The population and sample of this study were chronic hepatitis B patients who underwent urine bilirubin examination with blood bilirubin. Urine bilirubin examination used the Jendrasikgroff method and blood bilirubin using the Eclia method. The results of this study were tested statistically, namely by using the Spearman Correlation test, obtained results with a sig of 0.003 <0.005 Ha, it was accepted that there was a relationship between urine bilirubin levels and blood bilirubin in chronic hepatitis B patients. Keywords: Urine bilirubin levels and blood bilirubin in patients with chronic hepatitis B
