Abstract

ABSTRACT Stunting is a chronic nutritional condition in toddlers characterized by height below the age standard, and remains a serious problem in Indonesia, including in West Sumatra and Padang City. Its high prevalence impacts physical growth, cognitive development, and increases the risk of morbidity and mortality. One contributing factor is infection with pathogenic bacteria, especially Helicobacter pylori, which can interfere with nutrient absorption, reduce appetite, and affect a child's metabolism. Nucleic acid-based molecular diagnostic methods, particularly qPCR, offer high sensitivity and specificity as well as real-time quantification capabilities. This study aims to detect the presence of Helicobacter pylori in stool samples of stunted children at the Lubuk Buaya Koto Tangah Community Health Center, Padang using the qPCR (quantitative Polymerase Chain Reaction) technique. The type of study used is an experimental laboratory with a cross-sectional design. The study population was stunted children and normal children at the Lubuk Buaya Community Health Center, Koto Tangah District. The sample used in this study was two samples obtained using the Purposive Sampling Technique. The results of the study showed that Helicobacter pylori bacteria were not detected in fecal samples of stunted children from Lubuk Buaya Koto Tangah, Padang Keyword : Helicobacter pylori, Stunting, qPCR
