Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between HbA1c levels and hemoglobin concentrations in patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. HbA1c reflects average blood sugar control over the past 2-3 months, while hemoglobin levels relate to blood conditions that may affect HbA1c results. Considering the high prevalence of diabetes in Indonesia, this study was conducted at the Pramita Padang Clinical Laboratory by collecting data from 100 patients. The results show that the average HbA1c level is 9.34%, indicating poor glycemic control, while the average hemoglobin level is 13.55 g/dL, which is still within normal limits. The Spearman correlation test reveals a moderate and significant positive relationship between HbA1c and hemoglobin levels with a correlation coefficient of r = 0.438 and p-value = 0.001. In conclusion, HbA1c testing should be accompanied by hemoglobin measurement to provide a more accurate assessment of blood sugar control in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patients.
