Abstract
Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem in children that has a serious impact on growth, cognitive development, and quality of life in the future. One factor suspected to play a role is Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection, a bacteria that causes digestive tract disorders that can inhibit nutrient absorption. This study aims to detect the presence of Helicobacter pylori in stool samples of stunted and normal children using the Real Time PCR method at the Lubuk Buaya Koto Tangah Padang Health Center. This study used an experiment with two stool samples, one each from a stunted child and a normal child. The procedure included macroscopic and microscopic examination of stool, DNA isolation using the Crown Lab® H Pylori kit, and DNA amplification using the Real Time PCR method. Analysis of the results was carried out based on the amplification curve and Cq value. The results showed that both samples were negative for Helicobacter pylori infection. Positive and negative controls demonstrated the validity of the Real Time PCR test. The conclusion of this study was that no Helicobacter pylori was found in stool samples of stunted and normal children. This indicates that the factors causing stunting are likely more influenced by nutritional status, other infections, and environmental and socio economic conditions.
